Embark on a luxury lodge adventure to the stunning Samburu Game Reserve, a rugged and dramatic landscape in Kenya's northern semi-desert region. This tour is dedicated to discovering the reserve's unique wildlife, often referred to as the "Samburu Special Five," which includes the Beisa oryx, the long-necked gerenuk, the Grevy’s zebra, the reticulated giraffe, and the Somali ostrich.
The Ewaso Ng'iro River runs along the southern boundary of the reserve, acting as a lifeline for all wildlife, including crocodiles and hippos, and attracting a wide array of animals to its banks to quench their thirst. During game drives, you can also expect to see other plains game, as well as predators like buffalo, lion, leopard, and cheetah. Samburu is also home to the pastoral Samburu people, relatives of the Maasai, offering a rich cultural experience. Your safari begins in Nairobi and promises a journey into a truly unique and untouched wilderness.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu Your safari begins with a morning departure from Nairobi, heading north through a scenic landscape to the rugged semi-desert region of Samburu. This journey will take you to a place with unique wildlife species found nowhere else. You'll arrive at your luxury lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon, you will embark on your first game drive to begin your search for the Samburu Special Five. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the lodge.
Day 2: Full Day in Samburu You will spend a full day exploring the Samburu Game Reserve with both morning and afternoon game drives. You will follow the Ewaso Ng'iro River, where much of the wildlife congregates, and discover the diverse species that call this unique environment home. You will have the option to visit a local Samburu village to learn about their fascinating culture and traditions. All meals and your overnight stay will be at the lodge.
Day 3: Samburu to Nairobi After an early morning game drive, you will return to the lodge for breakfast. After checking out, you will begin your drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the city in the afternoon.
